Bob was born February 27, 1931 in Jackson, Michigan to the late Horace and Ida Ireta (Elsworth) Garfield. He graduated from Flint Central High School receiving his diploma in 1950. In 1956 he obtained his Journeyman’s license as a plumber pipefitter. In 1959 he became a licensed steamfitter. Bob married Lenora (Nora) Miller on June 11, 1959 in Davison, Michigan. She preceded him in death on February 10, 2015. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1950 until 1953. Bob worked most of his life for numerous construction companies and contractors throughout Flint and Saginaw. Bob retired from Flint Truck and Bus after 11 years seniority and was a member of UAW Local #598. Bob spent the last years of his life as a member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Mt. Morris. He was involved in the Boy Scouts and eventually held a position where he “trained the trainers.” Bob volunteered his time to be a Juvenile Officer helping troubled teenagers. He also belonged to the Fellowship of Christian Magicians. He volunteered for several years doing maintenance at Genesee Christian Elementary School. Bob enjoyed woodworking, chemistry, fishing, camping, and photography. He also enjoyed collecting reptiles in his earlier years.

After accepting Christ in his early twenties, he dedicated the rest of his life to serving his Lord and Savior in various ways. He served as deacon, Sunday School teacher and preached when called upon. He was very open about sharing his faith by word and example, hoping that everyone he came in contact with could share the joy he had in Jesus Christ.
