Leon was honorably discharged from the United States Army having served during the Korean War (1949-1953).
Leon was a veteran of the U.S. Army (1949-1953) and served our country in the Korean War. While stationed in Augsburg, Germany, he met his future bride of 50 years, Rosemarie Bestler. He was a carpenter for over 40 years and retired from Sorensen Gross Construction. Leon enjoyed taking casino trips, spending time with family, and putting together puzzles. If anything needed to be built or fixed, Leon was the guy to go to. Leon was a member of The Michigan Carpenters Union Local 706, The Grand Lodge Free & Accepted Masons of Michigan, The American Legion, The VFW, The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, The GBU-German American Club, and a lifetime member of The Loyal Order of the Moose since 1958.
Leon is survived by his children, Romona (Roy) DeLong of Corning, OH, Rochelle (Neal) Clayton of Davison, MI, and Rebecca Keltie of Clinton Twp, MI. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Roy, Rochelle, Robecca, Jessica, Kyle, Jenna, Logan and Neal, several nieces and nephews, 5 great grandchildren, Roy, Autumn, Courtney, Sherielyn, Hayliemarie, 1 great-great grandchild, as well as his dear friend Beth Tufford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Rosemarie, and siblings Darlene Teachworth and Jerry Ross.
His funeral service will be held Monday, April 24 at 11am at O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park with military honors. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, April 23, 11am-5pm and Monday April 24, 10am-11am. A masonic memorial by the Vienna Lodge #205 F and AM will be held at 4 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
